The UCLA women’s tennis team ended their season Friday with a 4-2 battle against second seeded Texas A&M at the NCAA championship super regional at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

Although they came into the matchup having the lower hand, the Bruins, ranked No. 17, gave a strong battle for Texas A&M before eventually falling in the end. The Bruins ended the season with 18 wins and nine losses.

Texas A&M, who are now 28-3, made their hit first with a win in a doubles match on court three. UCLA’s Olivia Center and Kate Fakih, ranked No. 11, responded on court two and claimed a 6-4 win.

In the doubles match on court one, Mia Kupres and Mary Stoiana defeated UCLA’s Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle 6-3 where they grabbed the initial 1-0 lead.

In terms of the single play, the Bruins put up a strong battle. The No. 1 ranked Stoiana on Texas A&M quickly defeated No. 31 Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer in a score of 6-0, 6-2. Bianca Fernandez answered for UCLA with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Lexington Reed on court six.

Texas A&M’s Kupres brought Wagle’s six match win streak to an end on court three, winning with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Although there was hope as Hance made a top victory of the season by upsetting No. 13 Nicole Khirin 6-2, 7-5 on court two.

It came down to the final point on court four, where Texas A&M’s Lucciana Perez held off Fakih in a very tense 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 battle, letting Texas A&M take the win.

Even though the season has ended for the UCLA women’s tennis team, they will continue to work and stay resilient for the next year.
