Mindfulness is very important. Practicing mindfulness means being aware of your body and calmly acknowledging your feelings, thoughts and sensations. As a college student, the stress you encounter is rarely treated correctly. It is also essential to have good habits so that you know how to manage in times of chaos. Traditional methods of stress relief include yoga, meditation and journaling, but UCLA also offers many great options for their students:
Check the ASUCLA student union calendar for wellness events.
No Cost Options
The Student Wellness Commission hosts many events, which they post on their Instagram. One of the most recent and popular events is Massage Mondays, where you can stop by Kerckhoff Hall for a free five-minute massage to release some tension every Monday. Many people carry tension in their body, and this is one simple way to release it, leaving you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day.
Near the UCLA Medical Center, you can visit the Mathias Botanical Garden. If you enjoy nature, this is the perfect place to walk around, soak in some sun and enjoy the plants. Admission is free unless there is a special event.
The Stressbusters series is implemented during finals week, offering activities like crafts, goat yoga and more! These events provide students with fun and unique ways to unwind during one of the most stressful times of the quarter.
Low-Cost Options
At the Ashe Center, you can try acupuncture or get a massage for about $15-30. This is a great way for your body to relax and unwind after a long, hard day.
If you’re into relaxing by moving your body, you can join a walking club, check out a yoga studio or explore one of the many fitness classes offered around Westwood. These options let you stay active while enjoying the vibrant community right near campus.
With such a range of options available, students can find ways to practice mindfulness, de-stress and take care of themselves both mentally and physically.
