Last night No. 2 UCLA men’s volleyball team beat No.7 BYU in a heated game in Pauley Pavilion.
The UCLA men’s volleyball team defeated BYU in four sets. The final sets were 25-17,22-25, 25-21 and 25-17.
Within the first set UCLA went in hot with a .560 efficiency. One player that was highly noteworthy in the beginning was redshirt junior Cooper Robinson. Robinson had 17 kills along with Zach Rama who had 12 and Sean Kelly adding 10.
Another player who was in the spotlight was Andrew Rowan. Rowan had a whopping 47 assists along with meeting his 3,000 assists within his career.
Within the second set, UCLA continued to have legendary plays from Rowan. There were multiple noteworthy blocks from Rama as well as Cameron Thorne helping the team further in the third as well as the fourth set.
UCLA’s defense was unstoppable as they had a total of 23 assists. Within the third set Rowan was further noteworthy.
In the fourth set the bruins had a 15-8 lead along with a 6-2 run causing a timeout by BYU. Robinson and Thorne had both contributed for a block assist.
The bruins furthered their lead to 20-13 with Robinson attacking with his 17th kill.
Rowan and Thorne made a great finish bringing the match point 24-16. The attack from BYU constructed a final set win for UCLA 25-17.
UCLA will now prepare for their next game against USC on Thursday, April 17th.
