UCLA men’s tennis defeats Nebraska on the road, preps for Big Ten Tournament

The Bruins came out firing in doubles, setting the tone with aggressive net play and sharp returns. On court three, Emon van Loben Sels and Gianluca Ballotta showcased their chemistry early by showing strong offense to earn a 6-3 win over Nebraska’s Nikolay Sysoev and Colson Wells. Soon after, Aadarsh Tripathi and Spencer Johnson clinched the doubles point with another 6-3 victory on court two against Anton Shepp and Henry Bilicic.

With UCLA leading 1-0, court one was left unfinished.

In singles, UCLA maintained its edge. Alexander Hoogmartens struck first on court four, delivering a composed straight-set win over Lars Johann, 6-4, 6-4. Nebraska answered with a win on court two, where Anton Shepp edged out van Loben Sels in a tight three-set battle, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Kaylan Bigun sealed the match for the Bruins on court three, battling through a tense final set to defeat Nikolay Sysoev 6-7, 6-1, 7-6.

Nebraska’s point came on court two where Shepp edged van Loben Sels in a three-set battle. The remaining two singles matches on courts five and six were unfinished once UCLA secured the overall win.

Now, the Bruins shift their focus to the Big Ten Tournament, set to begin April 24 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
