by Bemnet Rondeau

LOS ANGELES — The UCLA men’s tennis team continued its impressive run through Big Ten play on Sunday afternoon, shutting out No. 47 Washington, 4-0, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The victory marks the Bruins’ sixth consecutive win and keeps them undefeated in conference play at 6-0. UCLA is now 8-6 overall and has outscored its Big Ten opponents by a staggering combined score of 30-1.

The Bruins set the tone early in doubles. On Court 1, Alexander Hoogmartens and Giacomo Revelli took on their first ranked opponents of the season — the No. 72 pairing of Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn — and delivered a composed 6-3 win after racing out to a 3-0 lead. On Court 3, Gianluca Ballotta and Emon van Loben Sels broke for 4-3 and didn’t look back, closing out their match 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. It was the pair’s fifth straight win.

In singles, UCLA quickly built on its momentum.

  • Revelli struck first again, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rohan Belday on Court 6 — his third victory in the past week.
  • #120 Aadarsh Tripathi extended the lead to 3-0 with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win on Court 5 against Ivan Sodan, continuing his personal winning streak.
  • The match was clinched by Hoogmartens, who defeated Nedim Suko 6-2, 6-3 on Court 4 to seal UCLA’s sixth straight dual-match win.

While the match was called after UCLA secured its fourth point, the Bruins were also leading in all three unfinished singles contests. On Court 1, #29 Rudy Quan held a 6-4, 4-4 edge over No. 51 Bouchelaghem. #75 van Loben Sels led 6-3, 5-4 on Court 2, and Kaylan Bigun had leveled his match at one set apiece on Court 3.

With their dominant form continuing, the Bruins now turn their attention to a key Big Ten road matchup against Ohio State, set for Friday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes are one of the top teams in the conference, making this a crucial test for UCLA as the regular season enters its final stretch.
