In its inaugural Big Ten season, No. 5 UCLA claimed its first Big Ten Gymnastics Championship title on Saturday, scoring a record 198.450 to complete a sweep of the regular season and conference titles.
The Bruins (24-3), who went 9-0 in conference meets, posted the highest score in Big Ten Championship history and their fourth-highest in program history. UCLA recorded 18 scores of 9.900 or more, and only two under 9.850.
Chae Campbell won the all-around with a score of 39.725, while Jordan Chiles, Brooklyn Moors and Ciena Alipio each earned perfect 10s in individual events. The meet marked the first time a Big Ten team had three gymnasts score perfect 10s in a single championship.
Head coach Janelle McDonald was named Big Ten Coach of the Year — her first conference coaching honor.
UCLA trailed Michigan State through three rotations before surging ahead with a school-record-tying 49.750 on beam and a 49.800 on floor to secure the comeback win. Michigan State placed second (198.150), followed by Minnesota (197.425) and Michigan (197.325).
