UCLA faced Nebraska on Sunday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Stadium. After a slow first half for the Bruins, they finally began scoring in the fourth inning to secure their third consecutive win against Nebraska this season. This victory extends the Bruins’ winning streak to five.

The first three innings were slow for the Bruins as they went scoreless. In the first inning, neither team scored, but in the second inning, Nebraska scored twice, allowing them to take the lead in this game. In the third inning, Nebraska scored once again, but the Bruins still had nothing. The fourth inning finally had Bruin fans excited as UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky got the first home run of the game for the Bruins.

The fifth inning allowed the Bruins to tie the game. Nebraska couldn’t score in this inning, but UCLA’s Dean West hit the ball and allowed two of his teammates to score for UCLA, meaning UCLA was now tied with Nebraska.

In the sixth inning, Nebraska still couldn’t score for the third inning in a row. But for the Bruins, this inning allowed them to get ahead of Nebraska to take the lead for the first time in the game. UCLA’s Jarrod Hocking comes up to bat first for UCLA in the sixth innings and scores the second home run of the game for UCLA. He now allowed UCLA to get up ahead of Nebraska. Later in the sixth inning, UCLA’s Payton Brennan hit a single, followed by Cameron Kim, who also singled advancing Brennan to third. Blake Balsz hits the ball and runs to first base, allowing Kim to go to second and Brennan then gets a run to give UCLA another point. Soon after Kim attempted to run to third base, but did not make it. UCLA challenged the call but was unsuccessful.

Nebraska went scoreless again in the seventh inning. UCLA also attempted to score but after their three outs they also went scoreless. In the eighth inning, Nebraska’s Tyler Stone hit the ball and got to first base, but right after Will Jesske for Nebraska hit, UCLA made a double play getting Stone and Jesske out. Nebraska’s Cael Frost hit it high up, but UCLA caught the ball giving Nebraska their third out. Balsz hit the ball but was caught by Nebraska, giving UCLA their third out as well.

In the ninth and final inning of the game, Nebraska continued to try and score to beat the Bruins, but were unsuccessful. They went scoreless for the sixth inning in a row; they hadn’t scored since the third inning. The game ended at 3-5, UCLA winning against Nebraska for the third time this season.

The Bruins hope to extend their winning streak as they prepare to host Indiana this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
