Lines in nature

Although we often think of nature as chaotic and disordered, there are structured patterns and systems that are easily overlooked. By stopping to look for these patterns, we find that order and uniformity is all around us in the natural world. These images serve to display examples of organization in nature.

Parallel lines on the leaves of a palm tree.

Clouds that appear to flow past each other in a linear way.

The linear and complex vasculature of different types of plants.

The wooden lining between slabs of pavement with small plants reaching out from the cracks.

The extensive branching within a bush, consisting of numerous intersecting lines.
