Gallery: Outside Lands 2024, an ode to the Bay Area

by Caleb Velasquez

After hundreds of thousands of music lovers, Bay Area residents, and festival goers attended Outside Lands over August 9-11, 2024, Golden Gate Park served everyone well. With much to see and do around the festival grounds, there seemed to be something of interest for attendees each day.

People could renew their vows or even get married at City Hall or enjoy the open-air dance club at Dolores, which celebrated queer and trans communities. Freebies from sponsors like La Croix and White Claw attracted lines of attendees. If there was more downtime in between sets, Wine Lands, Beer Lands and Grass Lands were there for people’s enjoyment as long as they were over 21. Cannabis had been seen much throughout the three days, and for good reason. Outside Lands openly celebrates the usage of weed, with many attendees smoking joints and blowing the smoke into air, contributing to the fog.

For those looking to use Outside Lands as an escape, they were truly able to do so. Many attendees laid out the blankets and mats to listen to performances. There was a calmness and good vibe felt throughout the masses. The main exceptions were when fans went wild for Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan as they inched their way to the front of Lands End on day two and three respectively.

Overall, Outside Lands 2024 aimed to cater towards the majority of their audience. The food scene did not disappoint. Some of the acts, and the lineup of acts, seemed a bit lackluster, but nevertheless, the festival drew in thousands and lived up to its goal of celebrating everything Bay Area.
