Galentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, the most romantic and loving day, is just around the corner. Even if you doubt it, everyone has a reason to celebrate this special day. Yes, even if you find yourself in a long-distance relationship, focusing on yourself or happily single, you can turn this day into something special. Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about romantic love; instead, you can take this day to celebrate and embrace platonic love. Galentine’s Day, coined by the sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” is the perfect day to spend time with your friends and partake in cute activities.

Why not have a nice brunch? Westwood has many food options, but people often don’t realize just how many brunch spots there are. Le Pain Quotidien, Lazy Daisy, Corner Bakery, The Hideout and even Denny’s are all viable brunch options! All these restaurants have indoor and outdoor seating for whatever mood you and your friends are in and have a variety of sweet and savory options. Don’t know what to order? Have everyone order different items off the menu and split the food so you can all try out different flavors and food combinations. Dress up and take cute pictures to remember the day and to show off the clothes that have been hiding in your closet for some time.

Presents don’t just have to be for significant others! It’s never wrong to show your friends you care with a simple present. You don’t need to spend tons of money to show your appreciation; instead, opt for something handmade. If you know how to crochet, make them a cute stuffed animal keychain. If you like writing, write them a letter or a small poem. If you like drawing, create something they can hang on their dorm or apartment walls. If nothing seems right, print some memorable photos you’ve taken with them, as they’ll definitely appreciate a trip down memory lane!

Want to keep the day going as night falls? Watch a movie! Rom-coms are good all year round, but they’re especially fun to watch on Valentine’s Day. Make some popcorn, pull out some sodas and put on a movie. You can use your laptop, a television or a projector if you have one. Make the area cozier by bringing out your coziest blankets and pillows so everyone feels warm. There are so many classic rom-coms, and even if you don’t like those, there are plenty of new ones! “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “10 Things I Hate About You” are some oldies but goodies. If you want something more modern, check out “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Red, White & Royal Blue” or “No Hard Feelings.”

There are plenty of ways to have fun on Valentine’s Day, and having a Galentine’s Day is the perfect way to spend time with loved ones and have a fun, booked day.
