At Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, located on the campus of Arizona State University, No. 23 UCLA swim and dive team faced a tie breaker (150-150) during a meet against No. 18 ASU’s swim and dive team Nov. 7. Motivated to change the narrative on Nov. 8, the Bruins still faced a fall to Arizona (139-160).

The meet opened with UCLA diving in headfirst. UCLA’s Rosie Murphy, Sarah Bennets, Jada Duncan and Anna Wetteland brought in the first win with the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:33:18 with 11 points. ASU took wins for the women’s 1000-yard freestyle and the women’s 200-yard freestyle.

Picking up win after win, UCLA’s free/back Claudia Yovanovich came first at 52.24 and scored nine points in the women’s 100-yard backstroke. Keeping up with the flow, UCLA’s back/IM Rosie Murphy followed right behind with her time of 52.46.

Beginning of the tenth event of the meet, ASU’s swim and dive were matching up the race with UCLA. ASU met a time of 1:54.71 in the women’s 200-yard backstroke, placing the Bruins four spots behind first place with a time of 1:58.47. UCLA and ASU’s points and times began to align, causing the meet to be UCLA’s third draw in school history, ending with the score 150-150.

Reaching the top on Saturday morning, UCLA’s swim and dive team competed at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on the campus of Arizona University. ASU won the first event of the dual meet in the 400 medley relay.

UCLA led in pursuit, with UCLA’s distance/IM Applejean Gwinn taking first place in the women’s 1000 free event with her time of 10:01.09. Matching up the same energy, UCLA’s free Beril Bocekler took third in the same event with her time of 10:08.71.

The Bruins set the tone with each dive. UCLA’s Molly Brascia took first place in the 3m championship with her score of 303.38, and followed with UCLA’s diver Eden Cheng taking third with her score of 303.08.

The total of the event’s scores led to a final score of 139-160. The Bruins now stand with an overall record of 0-1-1. With high hopes, the women’s swim and dive team will return strong next week, Tuesday, Nov. 18, through Friday, Nov. 21 at the Ohio State Invite.
