UCLA sports recap: Feb. 10-16

UCLA athletics delivered another busy week filled with ranked matchups, strong performances and key conference wins. Several programs continued building momentum, while others faced tough road tests as the season moves deeper into February.

Men’s Basketball

UCLA battled early but faded in the second half, falling 86-56 to No.2 Michigan. The Bruins trailed just 40-38 at halftime before the Wolverines surged after the break, shooting 78.3% in the second half to pull away.

Sophomore guard Trent Perry led UCLA with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Senior guard Donovan Dent and senior forward Tyler Bilodeau each added 10 points, with Bilodeau grabbing a team-high six rebounds.

The Bruins will look to bounce back Tuesday, Feb. 17, when they face No.10 Michigan State at 5 p.m. PST.

Women’s Basketball

No.2 UCLA dominated its Michigan road trip with an 86-63 win over No. 13 Michigan State. Senior center Lauren Betts led with 22 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while senior guard Kiki Rice added 18 points and seven rebounds. Graduate guards Charlisse Leger-Walker and Gianna Kneepkens, as well as senior guard Gabriela Jaquez, also finished in double figures as the Bruins never trailed.

The Bruins followed that up with a 92-48 blowout of Indiana at Pauley Pavilion, moving to 25-1 (15-0 Big Ten). Rice poured in a game-high 17 points, Betts added 16 with a first-half double-double and Leger-Walker contributed 12, as seven Bruins reached double figures in one of the team’s most balanced performances of the season.

UCLA returns to Pauley Pavilion on Thursday, Feb. 19, to face No.25 Washington at 7 p.m. PST.

Gymnastics

Senior Jordan Chiles continued her historic run, earning her sixth straight Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor before powering No.4 UCLA to a 197.725-196.975 win over No.9 Michigan in front of 10,032 fans at Pauley Pavilion. Chiles captured her fifth consecutive all-around title with a 39.625 and delivered another perfect 10.000 on floor, while freshman Tiana Sumanasekera posted a career-high 39.475 in the all-around and freshman Ashlee Sullivan added a 9.900 on uneven bars.

The Bruins regained control in the second rotation with a 49.500 on bars, sticking all six dismounts and sealed the meet with a 49.650 on floor in the final rotation, highlighted by career-best performances from senior Ciena Alipio and junior Sydney Barros. The Bruins improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play.

UCLA will travel to Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. PST.

Baseball

No.1 UCLA opened its 2026 campaign by taking two of three from UCSD at Jackie Robinson Stadium, finishing the weekend 2-1. The Bruins stormed back for an opening day win behind redshirt junior right fielder Payton Brennan’s four RBIs and a strong debut from junior right-hander Logan Reddemann, then powered past the Tritons 7-2 on Saturday as senior right-hander Michael Barnett earned the win and junior catcher Cashel Dugger homered. UCLA fell 8-7 in Sunday’s finale despite a three-hit day from junior first baseman Mulivai Levu and home runs from freshman second baseman Aiden Aguayo and junior center fielder Will Gasparino.

The Bruins will be hosting Tulane on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. PST.

Softball

UCLA softball went 2-3 at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, battling through five high-level matchups against ranked opponents. The Bruins opened with a narrow 4-3 extra-inning loss to Oklahoma State before rallying for a 6-5 comeback win over Missouri behind clutch home runs from senior right fielder Megan Grant and freshman third baseman Bri Alejandre. Saturday proved challenging, as UCLA fell to No.3 Tennessee and No. 7 Florida State despite Grant continuing her power surge at the plate. The Bruins responded emphatically on Sunday, run-ruling No.12 LSU 8-0 in six innings behind a complete-game shutout from senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley and an 11-hit offensive performance.

UCLA now sits at 7-3 overall and will travel to Cathedral City for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where the Bruins will play six games from Thursday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 22.

Men’s Tennis

No.15 UCLA extended its winning streak to three with a 7-0 sweep of UNLV, improving to 5-2 on the season. Redshirt junior Emon Van Loben Sels clinched the match with a straight-set win, while sophomore Rudy Quan and senior Gianluca Ballotta each picked up singles and doubles victories. Junior Andy Nguyen and junior Spencer Johnson also secured singles wins as the Bruins took five of six matches in straight sets.

UCLA will next face rival USC on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. PST.

Women’s Tennis

No.19 UCLA delivered a commanding 6-1 win over San Diego at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, earning its second straight dominant result. The Bruins improved to 4-2 behind strong doubles play and four straight-set singles victories.

Sophomore Olivia Center led the charge, clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win and finishing with two victories on the day.

UCLA returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 17, hosting LMU at 1 p.m. PST.

Men’s Volleyball

No.1 UCLA continued its dominant run, sweeping No.17 CSUN 3-0 at Pauley Pavilion (25-18, 25-20, 25-22). The Bruins hit .403 as a team and controlled the match behind balanced offense and steady defense.

Redshirt junior opposite David Decker led with 11 kills on .625 hitting, while sophomore outside hitter Sean Kelly added 10 kills. Senior setter Andrew Rowan directed the offense with 33 assists and two aces, and redshirt junior libero Chris Connelly anchored the back line with a match-high 12 digs. Senior middle blocker Cameron Thorne contributed three blocks as UCLA held off a third-set push to close in straight sets.

The Bruins will face a major test next week, hosting No.2 Long Beach State on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. PST.
