NBA – The conference finals are set
The biggest headline of the week came from the NBA playoffs, where the field finally narrowed to the final four.
The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the Western Conference Finals after eliminating the Los Angeles Lakers in a sweep, fueled by another dominant stretch from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Meanwhile, the East delivered the week’s most dramatic finish. The Cleveland Cavaliers survived a brutal seven-game series against the Detroit Pistons, rallying late in Game 7 before escaping in overtime.
WNBA – The season begins with new faces and a bigger spotlight
The WNBA opened its 2026 season this weekend with more attention than ever before.
The Las Vegas Aces have been the most dominant team through the early part of the season, sitting at 4-1 atop the Western Conference. A’ja Wilson has continued to be dominant, and Chennedy Carter had one of the more eye-catching individual performances of the week — shooting 13-of-16 from the field for 27 points in a blowout win over Connecticut.
Two of the league’s newest franchises have had interesting starts. The Toronto Tempo, one of the WNBA’s expansion teams, are 2-2 and already showing some fight — they knocked off the LA Sparks twice over the weekend. The Portland Fire also picked up a notable win over the New York Liberty this week, proving they can compete with the East’s better teams even in their inaugural season.
On the struggling side, the Connecticut Sun are 0-4 and have looked lost on offense. The Chicago Sky and New York Liberty are both 3-1 and quietly putting together strong early resumes in the East.
Number one pick of the 2026 WNBA draft Azzi Fudd was falling behind expectations and battling injuries, only averaging 3.3 points per game while second pick Olivia Miles has had a promising start, averaging 15.5 points per game.
MLB – Rivalries continue
Mid-may baseball has brought several well-contested series.
This week, the New York Yankees and the New York Mets renewed the Subway Series, which ended with the Mets beating the Yankees 7-6 in 10 innings after a dramatic ninth-inning comeback.
In the midwest, the Chicago crosstown rivalry game ended with the Chicago White Sox beating the Chicago Cubs 9–8 in 10 innings on a walk-off homer by Edgar Quero.
Some standout results from Sunday continued to highlight several teams that are beginning to separate themselves early in the MLB season. The Atlanta Braves dominated the Boston Red Sox 8–1 with another balanced performance, while the Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates behind a strong outing from Zack Wheeler, who continues to build an early Cy Young case.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians rolled past the Cincinnati Reds 10–3 thanks to an explosive offensive performance. Although it is still only May, teams like Atlanta, Philadelphia and Cleveland are already showing the consistency, pitching depth and lineup production expected from serious playoff contenders.
