Here’s a quick glance at everything that happened in the professional sports world this past week …
NFL: Super Bowl and the offseason future
“We went through a lot of adversity this season but we came together,” Super Bowl champion Kenneth Walker III told NBC after leading the Seattle Seahawks to victory against the Patriots on Feb. 8, 2026.
Seattle’s victory was able to redeem its 2015 loss in the Super Bowl, when the Patriots narrowly defeated the Seahawks 28-24 due to a late interception in the end zone which sealed the deal for the game.
Seattle finished with the best record in the NFL this season and won its first Super Bowl since 2014 when they defeated the Denver Broncos. Walker III is the first running back to win Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis in 1997.
This week, with the NFL season wrapping up as Super Bowl LX finished, there is more attention on offseason restructuring.
After focusing on defensive power in Super Bowl LX, the Seahawks’ focus now is on maintaining their core roster in the offseason. There has been some staff turnover from the Seahawks to the Raiders, such as their offensive coordinator. However, the stability of offensive line coach John Benton staying put has provided protection and continuity for the Seahawks moving forward from the Super Bowl.
There were cuts from the Miami Dolphins’ roster as they released receiver Tyreek Hill, a multiple Pro-Bowl player, and Bradley Chubb as part of a salary cap restructure. Hill’s new status as an unrestricted free agent may lead him to join another team as he continues to recover from his ACL injury.
NBA: All-Stars vs All-Stripes, roster moves
All eyes were on the All-Stars game this weekend as it featured a USA vs. World format, making a more competitive and thrilling midseason showcase.
The Stars took down the Stripes in this setup, with Anthony Edwards earning All-Stars MVP for his outstanding performance.
The Philadelphia 76ers saw roster changes this week as Jabari Walker signed on to a new two-year contract, making him more likely to get more consistent bench minutes. Cameron Payne was brought in from overseas to rejoin playing for the Sixers as he had previously been in Serbia.
The trade deadline that was set on Feb. 5 still remains part of the narrative, although no major moves have been seen since then. As Payne and Walker settle into more prominent roles for the 76ers, this will hopefully improve guard depth and wing play in their future.
Looking forward, the NBA regular season resumes after the All-Star break, with an exciting Pistons vs. Thunder game on Feb. 25 scheduled.
NHL: Canadian Olympics
Whilst the NHL regular season has been put on hold, Olympic ice hockey has been taking center stage as of late.
Canada has been fierce against France and the U.S., with Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid among the major point producers for the maple leaf.
There is anticipation of a U.S. vs. Canada gold medal match-up as they both finished the preliminary round unbeaten.
A big loss for a strong contending team, the Los Angeles Kings, was seen this week. Kevin Fiala underwent surgery for an intense leg injury which means loss of a strong player and potentially a big loss for the team.
