How to spend a rainy day at UCLA

by Tanisha Aasim

Rainy weather is approaching at UCLA and while campus shines in all its glory, soaked socks and drenched jeans makes it hard to appreciate the season. Here are some tips to enjoy the views while staying warm.

Study spots on campus are filled when it comes to rainy days. It’s a great time to get your studying done while enjoying the view. Powell’s Reading Room is a classic, with its grand architecture and domed windows, it serves as a picturesque backdrop. Another great place is Pritzker Hall, located by the inverted fountain. This building has ample study space, fast Wi-Fi and eight floors, making it a perfect place to get your work done. Additionally, Charles E. Young Research Library provides a sleek, calming setting with its built-in cafe and floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a perfect place to study while watching the rain fall outside.

In Westwood, a great place to visit is the Hammer Museum. This museum has free admission, and is a wonderful place to enjoy art while staying cozy and warm indoors. Cafes are also great places to socialize and get some work accomplished while grabbing a delicious coffee. Espresso Profeta also serves as an ideal location with tasty lattes and a homey ambience. Back on campus, the Billy Wilder Theater is another great place to grab some popcorn and enjoy a classic with your friends or even as a solo date.

This weather is the perfect time to get together with your roommates or friends, drink some hot chocolate and play a variety of board games. On campus, recreation centers such as the Bruin Esport Gaming Lounge and various other study lounges are excellent spots to wind down.

Whether you choose to spend a rainy day in a cozy study spot, hit up a place in Westwood or spend a day indoors with friends or roommates, the rainy season becomes less of an inconvenience when you take time to slow down and embrace the cooler weather.
