How campus involvement can make your college experience unforgettable

by Carol Nasr

College is more than just lectures, midterms and running to class with a coffee in hand. It’s about the little moments that start to shape who you are. For me, the most memorable parts of college haven’t come from textbooks. They’ve come from joining clubs, meeting new people and saying yes to things outside my comfort zone.

Getting involved on campus opened doors I didn’t even know existed. It’s how I met some of my best friends, found mentors I look up to and discovered what I’m passionate about. Moments after club practice, sitting on the grass talking about life with your favorite people or laughing during late-night event prep. Those are the things that make college feel like a movie. And they’re only possible when you put yourself out there.

Some of the most inspiring students I’ve met aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest titles. They’re the ones who show up, stay consistent and genuinely care. They’re the ones who will help you find your way, teach you what they’ve learned and make you feel like you belong. I’ve met so many amazing people just from showing up to events I almost skipped.

Getting involved also helped me learn more about myself than any class ever has. I figured out what I’m good at, what excites me and what I might want to do after graduation. But don’t get me wrong, being a student still comes first. It’s all about balance. Showing up to class and doing your best matters, too.

At the end of the day, college is what you make of it. Say yes to the info sessions. Go to the mixer even if you don’t know anyone. Be open. The most unforgettable parts of college usually happen outside the classroom when you least expect it.
