Get plenty of rest the night before. Puffy and droopy eyes from lack of sleep will affect your appearance.

Avoid new hairstyles, perms or cuts one week prior to your sitting. Come in with a style you feel comfortable with.

Choose a hair style that does not allow your hair to fall across your face. These styles create shadows on your face that are distracting and can make you look older.

Use a slightly heavier makeup than you would normally use. Avoid using too much makeup because it will make you look pasty. You want to try to highlight your eyes because they are the focal point of a great portrait.

During the Yearbook Season portraits are taken in the official black University of California Caps and Gowns along with the UCLA/Bruin Sash and UCLA medallion.

We suggest that women wear a top with a rounded collar or a tank top. This will prevent your shirt from being seen above the neck line of the gown.

It you don’t have a rounded collar shirt suitable for this session, wear a dark colored top that will blend in with the black UC gown.

A clean shave is a must. Razor stubble or a bad shave is impossible to correct even with digital retouching. If you have a beard make sure it is neatly combed and trimmed.

A shirt and tie is the standard dress for a formal portrait of a man.

The color of the shirt and tie is your choice. Avoid colors that clash with each other.

The neck size of the shirt is important. A shirt with a tight neck will create a choked appearance and a shirt too large will lower the location of your tie and give a sloppy look.

Make sure your shirt is neatly pressed to avoid wrinkles. The studio does not provide shirts for your use.

The Day of Your Sitting

[vc_tour interval=”0″ style=”tab-style-two”][vc_tab title=”Step 1: Length of Appointment & Paperwork” tab_id=”1394192159451-0-5″]

Appointments can be made in advance by booking an appointment thru our calendar.

Each portrait session is 15-20 minutes long. The first 5-10 minutes is spent completing the studio paperwork. The next 10 minutes is spent in the studio having your portraits taken.

The photographer will take a total of 8 poses. The first 4 will be taken without the cap and the final 4 with.

IMPORTANT: The 15 minutes session above are purely for the photoshoot. You will spend 10-15 minutes before or after your photoshoot doing the paperwork. Please show up early.

[/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Step 2: About Awards & Departamental Honors” tab_id=”1394192159613-0-10″]

If you are receiving an award from a department, organization or have a sash, ribbon or medallion you would like to wear in your portraits please bring them with you and let the photographer know.

The studio only provides the UCLA crest Medallion and college/latin honors cord.

[/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Step 3: Being on Time” tab_id=”1394192159773-0-1″]

It is very important that you be on time for your appointment. Anyone 5 minutes or more late by the studio’s clock will have their appointment canceled and will need to reschedule for a later time and date.

[/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Step 4: Glasses” tab_id=”1394192618050-4-1″]

Eye glass glare or the reflection caused by the lenses in eye glasses in a portrait is extremely difficult and expensive to remove.

If you choose to wear your glasses in your portrait session we strongly suggest that you remove the lenses from the frame before your portrait session. The studio will make adjustments in our lighting system to prevent this type of problem.

However, should this problem occur the studio will take no responsibility for the cost of retouching to correct the glare.
