When Bruins walk into Westwood, chances are they’re going to walk by Chick-fil-A. Students might know the place pretty well. For example, they might know that it’s located on the corner of Le Conte Avenue and Westwood Boulevard — the fast food restaurant is centrally situated, less than a block away from the UCLA Medical Center, Target and Diddy Riese. They also might know that an ample amount of bus lines run near or right in front of Chick-fil-A: the Big Blue Bus lines 1, 8 and R12 in addition to Metro lines 2, 6, 6R and 761. These are all things you can discover walking by Chick-fil-A at first glance. However, Bruins might not know about all the deals and offers Chick-fil-A has, especially for Bruins.
Aidan Houston, a second-year student studying business economics, works as a Chick-fil-A team member and knows all about what Chick-fil-A has to offer and how this affects Bruins specifically. This includes Bruin Tuesdays, a special deal only at Westwood’s Chick-fil-A.
“It’s an amazing promotion for our students,” Houston said.
On Tuesdays, Bruins can get a free entree with the purchase of a medium side and a medium beverage with their student ID, which would save students around $8. This is not a new development — while the restaurant has been publicizing the deal a lot more recently, Bruin Tuesdays have been around for at least the past couple of years.
Additionally, Chick-fil-A accepts Easy Pay. This means that if you have funds on your BruinCard, you can use that to pay for your meal.
Another unique offer from our local Chick-fil-A is Medical Mondays, which is essentially the same deal as Bruin Tuesdays (a free entree with the purchase of a medium side and beverage). This offer is for medical personnel working at the hospital, or anyone with a UCLA Health ID.
However, one of the best ways Bruins can take advantage of what the restaurant has to offer is by downloading the Chick-fil-A app for rewards.
“There were free cookies on the app last week, and the week before, you could get a free beverage,” Houston said.
For Houston, the best part about working at Westwood’s Chick-fil-A is not just getting deals — it’s the unique workplace atmosphere created by students for students. Out of all the Front of House Team Members (guest-facing employees), Houston estimated that 40-50% are UCLA students. The location also employs other students from schools like Santa Monica College or Mount Saint Mary’s University. This makes work fun for Houston, as he can talk about professors and coursework with his coworkers. He said this puts student employees in a unique and advantageous position, where they are “able to be students and serve students at the same time.” He finished by saying that “good service is what Westwood needs” and this is provided through Chick-fil-A’s unique deals and student-centered service.
