Sometimes you need a break from the chaos of school, clubs and life to just sit and breathe. What better place for a long, midterm burdened exhale than in front of a falling sun as it paints the sky with hues of pink and orange?
Come with me to give you a rundown of some of the best places to see the sunset and how to get there!
Janss Steps: 9.5/10
There is a reason Janss is usually packed with people on picnic blankets throughout the day, though especially during golden hour. To find this spot, simply go to Wilson Plaza, walk over to the staircase and find any spot on the hill. This is a gorgeous and amazing place to relax and take a study break. As the sun sets, it lights up all of Wilson Plaza. The best spots are on the part of the hill closest to Fowler or at the very top of the steps on top of the railing.
Rooftop of Boelter/Math Sciences: 8/10
To get here, go through the doors found off to the side of Boelter and take the first elevator you find to the ninth floor. You are able to see a lot more at this spot thanks to the elevation. However, it is a lot less picturesque than Janss, with a much more industrial and urban vibe that comes with the surrounding rooftops and city.
Hidden Patio Area in Gold Hall: 10/10
Enter through the main doors of Gold Hall right across from Anderson Cafe and go up the main stairs. Take the elevator up to the fourth floor and exit out the glass doors found directly across the hall. This area is absolutely amazing. You get a great view of the soccer field as the sun sets, painting the entire view with a beautiful golden orange. This area is basically empty and truly is a hidden gem.
Seating Area across from the Drey: 11/10
The sunset here might have been my favorite view of the bunch. Go to Olympic and cross the bridge, there you will arrive at seats and tables where you can do work, eat food or just enjoy the view. It gives you a perfect view to the east, which, combined with the ease of getting to the area, the comfort of the seating situation and the proximity to food, all make this such an amazing spot.
Briskin Family Plaza: 7/10
This area is right in front of Anderson and provides a very direct view of the sunset. The sunset is really pretty here, but it is a slightly awkward place to just stand, as there aren’t really places to sit. This spot is perfect if you are walking to the Hill or just going out from Anderson and want to catch a quick glimpse.
Saxon Back Patio Area: 9.5/10
Walk into Saxon from the main walkway and walk towards the right side of Building J. Keep going to the back and around the stairs until you reach a small area with benches. Another spot is to the left of the same building through a little path that brings you to a small grassy area. This area provides you with a great view of the sunset, though slightly obstructed by the trees. The fact that there are two very quiet spots where you can just sit and enjoy the view, however, brings up the rating for this spot.
