As teams prepare for the upcoming season and push toward playoff races, several league storylines defined this week’s professional performances.

NFL: Free agency controls off-season activity

With hopes of competing for the Super Bowl, NFL teams are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on contracts to enhance their rosters.

The Miami Dolphins have been especially occupied and involved this year, leading the NFL’s free agency activity so far. Based on multiple reports, the Dolphins have agreed to terms or signed 22 contracts as of March 15.

One of the biggest deals in the opening wave of the 2026 free agency was on March 12 with Jaelen Phillips signing a four-year, $120 million deal joining the Carolina Panthers. The linebacker is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles, offering the Panthers elite defense for the 2026 season and beyond.

Formerly with the Cincinnati Bengals, free agent defensive end Trey Hendrickson signed a four year contract of $112 million with the Baltimore Ravens on March 12. After Hendrickson’s conflicting contract negotiations with the Bengals, he has reportedly expressed his excitement for his fresh start with the Ravens.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals were also busy signing defensive lineman Jonathan Allen from the Minnesota Vikings, where Allen was released in March due to salary cap constraints just one season in with the Vikings. The unrestricted free agent agreed on a two-year, $26 million contract on March 13, expecting to improve the Bengals defensive line.
