It was another busy and successful week across Westwood, with big wins, ranked upsets and individual accolades stacking up across multiple programs.
Baseball:
Season energy is ramping up! Tickets are officially on sale. If you’re looking to support the Bruins this spring, now’s the time.
Men’s Basketball:
UCLA picked up its third straight Big Ten road win with a dominant performance at Oregon against the Ducks, continuing its strong conference stretch. The Bruins nearly capped the week with a marquee home win, but suffered a heartbreaking 98–97 double-overtime loss to the Indiana Hoosiers on Jan. 31 after tying the game late in regulation.
Adding to the positives, however, senior guard Donovan Dent was named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 20–26.
Women’s Basketball:
Pure dominance. UCLA cruised past the Northwestern Wildcats, Illinois Fighting Illini and Iowa Hawkeyes, winning all three by double digits in one of the team’s most complete weeks of the season.
The Bruins have been controlling games on both ends of the floor, pairing efficient offense with stifling defense. Anchoring that defensive identity is senior center Lauren Betts, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and a favorite again this season, who continues to set the tone each night.
Men’s Golf:
Sophomore Baylor Larrabee earned Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week after finishing third at the Southwestern Invitational.
He shot 3-under 207 over three days in Westlake Village, marking UCLA’s first weekly conference honor since Pablo Ereño in September 2024.
Gymnastics:
Another perfect week as UCLA defeated the Michigan State Spartans and the Washington Huskies (the latter where they broke 198 in January for the first time since 2003!).
Star Olympian senior Jordan Chiles continued her dominant season, winning Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the fourth straight time — and remains the only gymnast to earn the award this year.
Men’s Tennis:
An impressive week on the courts as the Bruins rallied back down past the California Golden Bears and took down No.3 Stanford in back-to-back statement wins.
UCLA showed resilience across the lineup, delivering clutch performances in both singles and doubles to cap off one of its strongest weeks of the season.
Women’s Tennis:
UCLA shut out Stanford in dominant fashion but fell just short in a tight 4–3 loss to Cal.
They will look to bounce back in their next match on Feb. 14 against the San Diego Toreros.
Men’s Volleyball:
The No.1 Bruins swept both Vanguard and No.13 Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Ohio State match featured history, as UCLA won a 48–46 second set, which was the longest set ever in the rally-scoring era and an NCAA all-time record.
